The Veterans Nursing Home branch is part of our stake, so Steve has been quite involved there for the past 7 years. It's actually a great facility--it makes me wish one of us had done the military so we could go there if and when the need arises. There is a branch presidency called from our stake who is responsible, among other things, to hold church services there each Sunday. There isn't a meeting room, so they've been having sacrament meeting in the dining room. It opens right off the main hallway so there are lots of people coming and going all the time. Also, the kitchen is right there and meal preparation is noisy and rather distracting. A few years ago Steve and others in the branch presidency began raising funds to add a chapel/multi-purpose room, and started by going to the state legislature. They were given $250,000 towards the addition. Then they went to the church, which gave another $250,000. The Veterans Administration put in the rest, and the result is a brand new addition to the building which was dedicated this afternoon. Steve spoke, along with several other people. It's a wonderful space for all kinds of activities and it was great to be a part of it. KSL was there recording the event, and I got this picture off their web site. Steve is on the far left. He did a great job--I was proud of him.
